Within the past few hours, the deep blue sky had been slowly illuminated by the rising sun. The bright orb warmed the Earth and its inhabitants. Seated uncomfortably in a manmade trench, Ludwig downed the last of his morning rations. As he tossed away the scraps, he surveyed his troops slumped over near him. He scowled at their downtrodden dispositions.
